We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.OverviewAs a Senior Flight Control Systems Engineer, you will own functionality in the flight control algorithm, design and orchestrate simulations to validate control law design, and direct verification activities for system level behavior in labs and on-aircraft. You will author and coordinate aircraft and system level requirements and support validation activities. You will work with the modeling team to create simulations and analysis frameworks for collecting and presenting critical design data. You will focus the Aircraft, Safety, Avionics, Loads, Performance, Rotor Dynamics, and Flight Test teams to identify deficiencies and refine the aircraft design. You will work with software engineers to ensure relevant tests are run and relevant artifacts are produced, stored, and linked.ResponsibilitiesCoordination of aircraft-level and system-level teams to solve design challengesRecommendations on design closure based on simulation and analysis of aircraft responsesDevelopment and implementation of flight control featuresDevelopment of analysis and verification frameworksRequirement authorship and managementRequiredB.S. + 5 years of experience, or M.S + 3 years of experience. in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, or a related fieldKnowledge in classical controls, modern state-space controls, and numerical optimizationKnowledge in multi-body dynamics, aerodynamics, and electrical powertrainKnowledge in digital signal processing and real-time embedded systemsProficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, and PythonDesiredPassion about flying machinesCompensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $115,200 - $198,200/yr.
